OBU – Three Sectors applicable for Period 32-34 RAP Submission

Oxford Brookes University has introduced a new rule applicable to Topic 8 ad 15. If you are submitting your project in 2016 or May 2017, you will be required to use a sector specific organisation, based on the Industry Classification Benchmark. Find out which 3 Sectors are approved for 2016 RAP Submission The sectors for Period 32 to 34 are as follows:

  • Airlines

  • Pharmaceuticals and Biotechnology

  • Mobile Telecommunications

This rule is applicable to students who are submitting their project for the first time or to students who are resubmitting their project and changing the topic.

Originally, OBU was going to publish the names of the industry sectors on the 1st December each year. Due to operational reasons, the date has been adjusted to match the dates of the Information Pack. This means that the current sectors introduced for Period 32 and 33 are also applicable to Period 34.

The new industry sectors will be published in the Information pack 2017-2018 (Period 35-36) and annually thereafter.

    Hi Umar

For May and November 2016 submission, you can only choose companies from the given sectors. Please note this is only applicable for Topic 8 and 15.

    Hi Anna,
Does this allow students to choose the listed companies from all over the world as long as they fall in the given sectors? For example, in Malaysia, the airline sector only comprises of 2 listed entities, therefore in order to increase the choices available for students, is it ok if they choose any other international companies?

    Hi Anna,
i was writing my project on topic 8 but i am unable to find suitable references for my financial analysis is it OK if i ref financial reports of the companies?

  6. Anna Lishman says:

    Hi Sadia

You must use other sources apart from FS to support your financial analysis. If you don’t, you run the risk of failing your RAP.

Does the companies have to be listed on the stock exchange for topic 8?

  8. Anna Lishman says:

Not necessarily. The key when choosing your companies is the access to various sources of data for those companies. If e.g. the company is too small, it is likely that there won’t be enough secondary data analysing its performance.
